As NYC’s tech industry surges, global digital leaders gather for weeklong festival from June 7 - 14


New York, NY (April 28, 2010) — Reflecting New York City’s position at the forefront of a new technology boom, a diverse coalition of Internet blue-chips, start-ups, and grassroots organizations ranging from Yahoo! and IAC to Thrillist and Ignite NYC, today unveiled the preliminary schedule for Internet Week New York 2010.
Rapidly emerging as one of the leading global gatherings of Internet innovators, Internet Week New York, now in its third year, is expected to draw more than 20,000 people to more than 125 events across New York City from June 7 – 14.
In an exciting expansion for the festival, many of this year’s events will take place at the first-ever Internet Week New York Headquarters at Chelsea’s Metropolitan Pavilion, including the Internet Week Opening Night Party, the Provoke Summit hosted by presenting sponsor Yahoo!, IAB’s Innovation Days, and panels, exhibits, and parties hosted by official sponsors HP, IAC, Microsoft Expression Studio, and Pepsico.

The festival will kick off with an official proclamation from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and culminate with The 14th Annual Webby Awards, a star-studded gala honoring the Internet’s best and brightest at Cipriani Wall Street on June 14th. In between, conferences, networking events, meetups, screenings, and even sports competitions will unfold across the city, including Twtrcon, The Mashable Media Summit, Time Warner Breakfast Series, Kickball for Silicon Alley, Federated Media’s CM Summit, and Social Climbing, an indoor rock-climbing competition for NYC start-ups.
David-Michel Davies, Chairman of Internet Week New York, noted that this year’s Internet Week New York will put a global spotlight on New York City’s resurgent technology sector, which has recently been profiled in outlets like CNN, New York Times, and New York Magazine. According to a recent report released by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association, funding for New York-area startup firms rose 32% this year over 2009.
“Internet Week New York has quickly become an influential gathering of the world’s top thinkers in digital culture and commerce,” said Davies. “This year marks an important new chapter for both New York City’s technology sector and the festival, and we’re looking forward to an exciting week of events.”
Festival highlights include:

  • Yahoo! Provoke Summit — Yahoo!’s Provoke Summit will bring together decision-makers, developers and creatives in one unique conference designed to evoke thoughts and ideas through a variety of speakers and interactive demonstrations. This session will address how consumers and advertisers are using new online products and how new innovations and technology are evolving the digital media environment. (June 7, IWNY Headquarters)
  • Ignite NYC An international phenomenon, this quirky lecture series gives participants five minutes and a set of randomly rotating slides with which to enlighten the audience on anything from samurai swords to their favorite chemical elements. Presented by Web 2.0 Expo. (June 9, TBD)
  • Kickball for Silicon Alley — Image Space Media will host a kickball tournament for New York City-based startups. (June 12, TBD)
  • HP@IWNY Kick-Off Event — HP will help commence Internet Week New York festivities by hosting a conversation with some of the Web's most innovative minds about how they are harnessing the power of the Internet. HP will also provide the Media Center at Internet Week New York Headquarters. (June 7, IWNY Headquarters)
  • IAC’s DumbDumb Launch Celebration — A shoo-in to be one of Internet Week New York’s highlights, IAC and CollegeHumor will host a launch party in the IAC Building to celebrate DumbDumb, the new digital-driven production company co-created by comedic icons Will Arnett and Jason Bateman in partnership with Ben Silverman’s Electus (June 10, IAC Headquarters)
  • The Webby Awards — Concluding Internet Week New York, the star-studded awards gala will feature the Webbys' famous five-word speeches. (June 14, Cipriani Wall Street)
  • Twtrcon — A one-day conference focused entirely on the business use of Twitter featuring Martha Stewart, foursquare co-founder Dennis Crowley, and Google’s Dylan Casey. (June 15, New York Hilton)
  • Mashable Media Summit 2010 —Mashable and CNN present a one-day conference focusing on the impact of social media on the news industry, big brands and advertisers. Featured presenters include The Onion’s Baratunde Thurston and College Humor’s Ricky Van Veen (June 8, The Times Center)
  • IAB Innovation Days @ Internet Week — IAB will bring together the most influential thought leaders in marketing and advertising to explore what's happening right now, and what's soon to come, in the evolution of content and content delivery. (June 8 & 9, IWNY HQ)
  • Time Warner Breakfast— Time Warner Inc. will host a panel discussion on the future of tablet technologies and the opportunities they present for content programmers and advertisers alike.   • Dollar Van Demos — Dollar Van Demos is a music video showcase featuring performances inside a Brooklyn dollar van (share taxi) with real passengers. (June 10, Renaissance Java Café, Brooklyn)
  • CaT: Creativity and Technology — CaT is a gathering of brand creativity professionals and tech-side development companies for a discussion of furthering creativity through technology. (June 10, Pier 94)
  • CM Summit — Federated Media’s CM Summit will bring together agencies, marketers, platforms and entrepreneurs to discuss the real-time web and its future role in marketing. (June 7 & 8, Hudson Theater)
  • Thrillist — NYC-based startup Thrillist, a daily lifestyle-centric email now in 15 markets, will hosts two nights of their legendary parties. (June 8 & 9, TBD).

The festival is organized by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS), in cooperation with the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting.
