Nicholas Kristof keynote, Digital Archaeology Exhibit among headliners; Festival badges now on-sale


New York, NY (May 23, 2011) - From a keynote by Nicholas Kristof exploring the future of social media and democracy to an exhibit of the Internet’s earliest Websites displayed on vintage machines, Internet Week New York 2011 today unveiled a stellar line-up for its headquarters that reflects the diverse range of events that will unfold across the city from June 6 – 13.

Now in its fourth year, Internet Week New York, presented by Yahoo!, has become one of the world’s top events celebrating digital culture and a global showcase for New York City’s resurgent technology industry. More than 20,000 people are expected to attend over 250 conferences, meetups, exhibits, parties and more – from the Personal Democracy Forum to Flavorpill’s Internet culture scavenger hunt to The Webutante Ball. The festival will culminate with the 15th Annual Webby Awards at Hammerstein Ballroom – streamed live on Facebook on June 13th.

Serving as a hub for festival-goers, the expanded Internet Week New York headquarters will now take over both the Metropolitan Pavilion and the Altman Building in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood. Visit the website for the initial schedule of events. Headquarter highlights include:

  • The AOL Broadcast Stage will feature keynotesby digital innovators like Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof and Bob Bowman, CEO of MLB Advanced Media, the interactive arm of Major League Baseball, as well as panels and presentations by New York’s most buzzed-about companies including The Onion, Witstream, Buzzfeed, BBDO, Behance and Fashism.
  • Several major conferences will take place in the festival’s auditorium at The Altman Building, including The Yahoo! Provoke Summit, IAB Innovation Days, and the first ever crowdsourced fashion event, the Kaboodle’s Fab @ Five Fête & Fashion Show.
  • The first ever archaeological dig of the Internet, The Digital Archaeology Exhibit, brings some of the Internet’s earliest and most loved Websites back to life. These include everything from Sir Tim Berners-Lee’s Project and Word.com, all featured on the classic machines of their day.
  • The “Can You Draw the Internet?” Project reveals what happens when you pit a group of kids against a group of renowned designers, artists, and advertising professionals in an experiment that asks them to draw their own version of the Internet. The best of the inspiring, surprising, and comical drawings will be on display in HQ, on the Internet, and available for sales on ArtWeLove.com.
  • Festival passholders can sign up for a huge range of tech-related classes led by organizations like General Assembly, The Lamp, Buddy Media, and LearnVest, as part of City University of the Internet Classroom.
