TIME WARNER, THE WEBBY AWARDS, FLAVORPILL, SILICON ALLEY INSIDER AMONG INDUSTRY LEADERS ON BOARD FOR THIS YEAR'S INTERNET WEEK NEW YORK, JUNE 1-8, 2009
New York, NY (March 10, 2009) — Building on the success of last year's inaugural festival celebrating New York City's Internet community, two dozen of the city's leading online and new media companies have already announced they will present events as part of this year's Internet Week New York.
Returning event partners include Time Warner, The Webby Awards, Thrillist, PaidContent, and Digg, while Silicon Alley Insider, the American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA) and GCA Savvian are among new partners already slated to join the line-up for 2009. Last year's festival drew an estimated 12,000 people to over 80 events hosted by a broad array of companies and organizations, including Google, Advertising Age, Tumblr, and the NY Tech Meetup.
Reflecting the Internet's open structure, any organization — from artists and investment banks to startups and meetups — can present events during the festival. All participating organizations will have their events showcased and promoted as an Internet Week New York Official Event Partner. This year also marks the launch of the Internet Week Benefactor Program for organizations who wish to receive increased exposure throughout the week while supporting the festival. Internet Week New York 2009 will strive to build on last year's success. In 2008, the weeklong festival drew an estimated 12,000 people to nearly 100 events hosted by such diverse partners as Time Warner, Tumblr, Google, the New Museum, Columbia Business School, NY Tech Meetup and The Webby Awards.
The festival will draw leading thinkers and innovators to an eclectic mix of conferences, lectures, panels, and evening events focused on sharing ideas and shaping the future of Internet business and culture. Confirmed highlights so far include Silicon Alley Insider's Startup 2009, a breakfast panel series hosted by Time Warner, Conversational Marketing Summit presented by Federated Media, and a Digg Meetup. The festival, which will also feature live performances, exhibits, networking events, and nightly parties, will culminate on June 8th with The 13th Annual Webby Awards, a star-studded gala saluting the Internet's best and brightest.
"Internet Week New York 2009 will bring together some of the most creative and brilliant thinkers our City has to offer", said Commissioner Katherine Oliver, Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting. "Now really is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the medium's power and possibilities as we look to the future for inspiration and innovation."
"At a time of great challenge, New York City's Internet community can play a vital role in developing the new ideas and solutions that will revitalize our economy", said David-Michel Davies, Chairman of Internet Week New York. "Internet Week New York 2009 will demonstrate why the City's leadership in online commerce, media, and culture is needed now more than ever."
The Standard, Andre Balazs' acclaimed new hotel above The High Line in Manhattan's Meatpacking District, is the Official Hotel of Internet Week New York. Throughout the week the hotel will serve as a gathering place for attendees looking to connect with industry peers. Attendees can book rooms at a discounted rate by visiting internetweekny.com.
Internet Week is organized by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS), in cooperation with the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting.
